By way of introduction to our study of the Holy Spirit I invite you to think along with me for a while about the importance of discovering and knowing actual truth.
As a "Baby Boomer" and a child of the sixties, I have long been engaged in a running conscious analysis and critique of systems, worldviews and religions that pass themselves off as sources of, or authorities on, truth and reality.
A hallmark of my generation was to question everything; all power structures, political systems and social norms.
I'm not saying that this is necessarily a good policy, just that is was the case with many of us born after World War II.
As a consequence of my search for reality in a world of deception, misrepresentation and illusion, and after many disappointments and failures, I said; "If I ever find a dependable source for truth and an honest presentation of reality, I will stick with it for the rest of my life."
Well, I found just such a source for truth and an honest and unbiased presentation of reality in the Holy Bible.
There is a very simple and at the same time a very profound reason that the Bible meets these extremely high requirements for truth.
It is because the Author of reality is also the Author of the Bible.
He is the Spirit of Truth, the Third Person of the Holy Trinity.
You will never find anyone better equipped to explain the meaning of what they have authored than the author himself.
If you are interested in actual truth and want to know what is really real, there is no better way than to get to know the Person and work of the Holy Spirit.
